Thankvember: Friendship

For today's Thankvember post I am talking about friendship. I've never had a too much of hard time making friends but I also feel like I've been a part of a lot of different friend groups over the years and never seem to have that one person to last through them all. I am so grateful for everyone I have met and befriended in my life. Friendship is not always easy, so even if we've just been friendly acquaintances, thank you.

Friends, this post is coming to you slightly unprepared. Some of the people I see all the time are not in the photos below simple because there were no recent pictures of us on Facebook, and there are some people below that haven't talked to since college. I could do an entire series here talking about all the wonderful people in my life, but for now here are just a handful of memories.
Thank you high school friends, college friends, friends of friends, roommates, post-college friends, Nerdfighter friends, and all the friends I have yet to make!
J.

4 Simple Goals *before 2014

Last year I participated in A Beautiful Mess' 4 Simple Goals tag so I thought I'd do it again this year! I went for a few out of my control things back then so I am making sure this time my goals are attainable yet important to me.
1. Buy a succulent. Simple enough. I don't have any living plants in my apartment because we don't get much sun. I wish I lived in a place with a garden but that won't be for a long time. So I want to see if I can not kill a small succulent.

2. Inbox zero. I want to reach and mantaine (at least for a bit) zero messages in my email inbox. After I downloaded Mailbox on my phone I was able to reach it for a few weeks but it sadly did not last. I really really want to get there again.

3. Complete one more 2013 Goal. Ideally I'd like to complete more than one but at least one more would make me happy. I'll be sure to write a result;t post about that list once 2014 starts, and actually I think I did pretty well.

4. Rethink my shoes. I've recently been having feet problems and have to wear sole inserts in all my shoes now. They unfortunately don't fit in all of my current shoes and I still have some shoes from  high school(!) so I need to go through all of them and get rid of some. Also, my heath is more important then cute platform sandles.

Found Favorites #13 Modcloth Gift Guide

Ok, so I own a total of four  ModCloth dresses and some random accessories, so I'm not what you would call a frequent shopper there. However, I am a frequent browser! Sponsored post or not, I love sharing my favorite 'I need this in my life' wants from there. So since it's November, the month of being thankful and selfless, what if we 'online window shopped' not ourselves but for our friends? The website has their own great Gift Guide but I want to make one of my own. So here's five gift ideas from ModCloth and who to give them to!

So my sister is more of a dog person than a cat person, but I think this hat is just so adorable! A hat like this is perfect for my sister though, it's clothing (which she loves) but it does not take up too much space (which she does not have).

These dish towels are so pretty! Even though my mom and dad both use the kitchen equally, I know my mother is the one who does the decorating.

Okay, so maybe this only works if your boyfriend is a music nerd and/or a musician (like mine) but I think this shirt is a pretty great gift idea!

This desk lamp is a great gift for your always up late reading father or brother. I don't have a brother, but if I did I bet he'd be the book obsessed type since my dad is!

I almost did not include these headphone splitters, they are cute and allow 3 people so share; but they are not too uncommon. Then I saw the top comment. Yup. Perfect. That's why you should give this gift to your nerdy best friend.
(Not sure what AVPM is? You're welcome.)

Thankvember!

Happy Thankvember! What's Thankvember? It's a month long blog linkup sponsored by Chantillysongs. Every Thursday through Thanksgiving I'll be posting about what I'm most thankful for. (spoiler alert: they're all people!) Today I am thankful for...myself! I do not take for granted my privilege, my health, my opportunities, and my life. Things don't always go according to plan and recently my life has gotten more difficult for various reasons (when it rains it poor, right?) however I am so grateful and thankful for all I do have. So here's to me! The places I've been able to go, the things I've been able to do, and the life I have and love!IMG_0304

Louise Belcher (Bob's Burgers) - Halloween 2013

Louise Belcher
On Halloween day this year, I dressed up as Louise from the cartoon show 'Bob's Burgers' during the day at work. It was a simple costume that would not bother me after an entire day at my desk. All I did was make the hat, the dress and flats were things I already owned. I guess, due to the style of dress, this is a more mature Louise. The hat was made with fleece and a few different patterns I found which I altered. The ears were the hardest part, I tried two other methods before I found one that worked. Inside each ear is a cardboard base, that worked best (better than fluff or fluff with wire). I love the way it came out but I might eventually fix up the little strings at the side if I decide to wear this costume again.

Dr. Ellie Sattler (Jurassic Park) - Halloween 2013

  Jurassic Park
For Halloween this year (2013) my friends and I did a group costume: Jurassic Park! Jim and I were Alan and Ellie of course, John was Malcolm, and Vince was a dinosaur. We did this for a costume party the weekend before Halloween (and John really only was Malcolm for these photos since his costume did not really make sense alone.) The cool thing about this easily assembled costume is that Jim and I found the key elements for ours during one Old Navy trip! It worked out pretty well. For Vince's dino costume, I just sewed on spikes, teeth, and eyes temporarily to his green hoodie. It was nice to have an easily recognizable costume for once.
