These glass acorn necklaces are right out of a storybook. A perfect mix of fantasy and fairy tale.

International Geek Girl Pen Pals Club

I have always loved all things literary and enjoyed the art of snail mail. Ever since I can remember I've had one pen pal or another.  They never lasted too long but they were fun. Over a year ago I started a project called 100 Letters.  So far it's been successful but it is still long from completion.

When I first heard about International Geek Girl Pen Pals I was a little hesitant, seeing as I'm already sending so much snail mail. The more I read about it, however, the more intrigued I became. This was not just a pen pal service, this was made for and by geeky women. So I signed up!  It was hard to pick 4 geeky things to represent myself. I could go the easy rout and just pick the popular ones but I ended up putting down the first things that came to mind.

Cats (the musical)
The Lord of the Rings
Labyrinth
Harry Potter
YouTube (and film making in general)

I have no idea if there will be any other Cats fans or Labyrinth fans out there, we shall see! I'll be happy with whoever I get and I can't wait to send out my first letter.

Are any of you a part of International Geek Girl Pen Pals? Round one and two are full but they have announced a round 3.  Make sure to follow their Tumblr to find out when you can sign up!

EDIT
My Intensedebate comment system started glitching a lot so I had to remove it. I did not want to lose the comments this post had but it had to happen.  I loved what people had to say so I screencaped it before I deleted Intensedebate.  (If your comment is one of the screencaped ones, consider commenting again, it'd make my day!)

Tuber Tuesday: Comic Con

Comic Con is coming up in the next few months and I'm re-living the good old days when it use to be the highlight of my summer. Back in college I went to Comic Con every year and I'll be sharing my costumes from those times very soon on this blog. These last two years I have been in San Diego during the convention but not inside.  I think I'll try and do the same this summer, even though it's not the same as having a ticket. Spending time with friends in a city that is full of cosplayers for a weekend is still a pretty awesome time.  Watch the video below as I share my experience from last year.

Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) – Goblet of Fire premiere

The first Hermione costume I made was in 2005 to wear to the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.  It was in November of my Freshman year of college and I went with a large group of friends, most from the film school which I was a part of.  The only thing handmade about it was the robe which I sewed last minute (from a jedi robe pattern!) and the scarf that my mother made for me.  The wand was actually made for me by my dad.  Everything else (tights, sweater, skirt, patch, shirt, tie) were either bought new or thrifted.

DailyBooth

So perhaps this is cheating on my 'post new photos on Thursdays' theme, since these are old photos, but I am still excited to find these! Does anyone remember DailyBooth? It was a photo sharing website that shut down recently. I download all of my photos from there but haven't really looked at them since.  I opened the zip file today and here a few of my favorites.  Enjoy my face!

Maybe I'll post these and the rest to my Tumblr. Oh old memories... Also, that last one is making me want bangs again...

You may have heard the news last week, but Google announced that they are shutting down Google Reader on July 1st. I have far more Google Friend Connect readers than any other platform.  I don't want to lose all of you so I would so happy if you followed me on BlogLovin!

There is also HelloCotton, which is more community based but similar to BlogLovin! I am also just about everywhere else on the internet.  I've recently updated my social media buttons on this blog but I'll add them below as well so you can do some browsing. Thanks everyone for your continued support!

River (Firefly) – Midnight Premiere of Serenity

River from Firefly
This costume was thrown together for the Midnight Premiere of Serenity in 2005.  My friends threw together costumes of other characters from Firefly as well.  We saw Serenity at the ArcLight in Hollywood and our group was one of the many Firefly cosplay groups there that night. This costume is retired as it was really just for the night.

Thank Instagram!

This Tuesday my phone took a turn for the worse. First the sound cut out, then it would not hold a charge.  Before I could connect it to my computer to save all of my contacts and recent photos, it died.  My service provider sent me to Apple, Apple sent me back to my service provider and ultimately I had to get a new phone. (Free of charge, thank goodness!)

The moral of the story is that in the future I need to back up my data (read: photos) more frequently. But THANK INSTAGRAM! If it were not for Instagram I would have lot a lot more. I have a love hate relationship with the app but this time it has really saved me. Pictured above is my most recent Instagram. (From last Saturday) so luckily not much was lost.  Feel free to follow me on Instagram if you do so choose to, here. I might start posting some Instagram update posts as well. (I'm getting deeper into these lifestyle blog trends, oh dear!) Wish me luck this time around and perhaps I should invest in a waterproof case...

Last Four Nails

Here are another 4 nail designs. All fairly simple this time. As you can see, I'm still no expert on application but I'm trying. If you have any cool nail tutorials you think I should try, be sure to let me know.

Tuber Tuesday: 51 things I found in my room

This video is just a cute 'tag' that was going around in the early days of YouTube. It' nothing special but fun to see how much of a little hoarder I am. I'm currently working on re-decorating my room and might do a little room tour here when I'm done. In the mean time, check out some of the random stuff I own.

I'm trying out IntenseDebate for comments now. I hated the fact when I replied to a comment, the commenter rarely saw it. I realize that most bloggers email the commenter if they want to continue the conversation, but I like thanking people and this way seems to be best for me.  Do me a favor perhaps? Comment on this post so I can try it out, thanks!

Princess Jasmin (Aladdin) – Anime Expo 2004

Princess Jasmine

Not the traditional version of the Disney princesses but a realistic take on her. This costume was not an original design but from a pattern. I wore it to Anime Expo in 2004 when I was 18. This costume is retired as the top no longer fits. The last photo is from Comic Con 2007 and Jasmin is worn by a friend.
