Remember when I made those awesome Harry Potter inspired winged key necklaces? Well after I listed one on my Etsy shop it ended up being the first thing I sold. This weekend I was organizing my Etsy box (where I keep my Nerdy Monsters and hair bows that are for sale in my shop) and there it was; another winged key necklace.

Since I have this goal of listing a new product every month in my shop (and I made this goal before knowing I would also be planning my wedding at the same time) I thought it would be okay to consider this necklace a 'new product' since it's been unavailable for so long.

The exact listing is here, but remember, this is the last one I have. If it get's bought quickly, I might make more but it's not in my intimidate shop plans.

Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) - Halloween 2010

Halloween 2010 was the Halloween I wore 3 different costumes. During the work day I was Hermione in an updated version of the costume I wore for the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire five years ago. I've since improved the costume even more but have yet to take those photos.

Get the Long Beach Funky Quaffles to the Quidditch World Cup!

My wonderful (and talented) friend Hannah is on a Quidditch team, The Long Beach Funky Quaffles, and they have qualified for the Quiddich World Cup this year! (Yes ~~muggles~~ people actually play a version of Quidditch from the Harry Potter series. Yes they hold a World Cup every year. Still with me? Good.) It's not being held in California this year so they need a travel fund, that's where you (maybe) come in.

If you've never heard of Indigogo it's a website that lets people who need funding for projects try and get just that! There are different 'perks' depending on how much you decide to donate. (I personally chose the "Something for Everyone" $12 level so I can get Hannah's new album, so excited!)

I have also helped out by designing some cute Quidditch themed buttons! At the $2 donation level you'll receive the Funky Quaffles logo button and at the $6 level you'll receive the three Quidditch buttons I've drawn. The first is a broom, quaffle, and two bludgers, the second is the hoops, and the third is the snitch.

Harry Potter Inspired Winged Key Necklaces

In the first Harry Potter book Harry, Ron, and Hermione seek out the sorcerer's/philosopher's stone and they have to complete different challenges bellow Hogwarts to do so. Harry's first challenge involved flying on a broom to capture the correct flying key to open the next door. Recently I had the idea to make some cute 'flying key' necklaces for myself and a friend.

Right now those are the only two I've made, but since I am thinking of re-opening my Esty shop I was wondering if this type of jewelry would be good to sell there. If you like them and think I should make some to sell, let me know by leaving a comment. I'm not sure how much they'd cost but not too much!

Musical Mondays: Kirstyn Hippe

For the last Musical Mondays post of the month, I'd like to highlight Kirstyn Hippe. She is a young independent singer songwriter I met online. She sings covers, originals and even some wrock and trock. Wrock is Harry Potter inspired music and Trock is Time Lord (aka Doctor Who) inspired music. The song I'm sharing with you today is called Mirror of Erised and it's one of her wrock songs. She's very talented and even if you're not a fan of nerdy fandom rock, she's worth checking out!

Whsimc Alley Craft Faire - May 2013 - Day 2

It's Professor Trelawney! Day two at the fair was just as fun as day one. I did not film a walk through like I did last year, but I am planning on making a 'Craft Faire Haul' video in a few weeks. Overall we did well. The best part was just being there and experiencing the magic all weekend.

Whsimc Alley Craft Faire - May 2013 - Day 1

Last weekend I participated in another Whimsic Alley Craft Faire. I sold mostly the same things as last year; Nerdy Monsters, Pygmy Puffs, and buttons. This time Whitney was able to get work off to sell her paintings, so the two of us were there both days. We made buttons with Whitney's baby house animals and those sold pretty well. By far, the Pygmy Puffs were the most popular! Pretty soon I'll make some more and sell them online.

This year we only had half a table but it was enough. I also had some of my mom's crafts with me; handmade jewelry and her knitted purses. She used to sell at craft fairs as well, but I'm sure they weren't quite as 'themed' as this one.

The first day was pretty good. We tried not to spend as much as we made. (It was hard!) Stay tuned tomorrow for day two!

Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) – Goblet of Fire premiere

The first Hermione costume I made was in 2005 to wear to the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. It was in November of my Freshman year of college and I went with a large group of friends, most from the film school which I was a part of. The only thing handmade about it was the robe which I sewed last minute (from a jedi robe pattern!) and the scarf that my mother made for me. The wand was actually made for me by my dad. Everything else (tights, sweater, skirt, patch, shirt, tie) were either bought new or thrifted.

DIY: Nerdy Christmas Ornaments

One of my favorite vloggers and bloggers, Karen Kavett, created some nerdy Christmas ornaments and I tried out three of her designs. A Poké Ball, polka dot, and a golden snitch.
I used white paint and a black sharpie (ran out of black paint) to create the Poké Ball.
The polka dots on the green ornament are from a white lable cut out with a hole punch.
The golden snitch was made from cardboard scraps, yellow paint, gold rope, and hot glue.
I learned that hot glue is not easy to work with at such a small scale and have it not show, it looks fine
from a distance however. Thanks for the ideas, Karen!

The fair was amazing. I have already signed up for a half table at the next Whimsic Alley Craft Fair in May. Before I move on, here's a video I put together featuring each and every booth that was there.

Whimsic Alley Craft Fair - November 2012

I sold crafts at my first ever craft fair! It was November 10th and the 11th and it was a success! By 'success' I mean that Whitney and I both made back our table cost. I was there both days selling my Nerdy Monsters and buttons and pygmy puffs. Whitney could not make it either of the days but I had helpers come visit and watch the table for me when I took breaks.

The above photo is from the first day of the fair, I mixed Whitney's paintings in with my monsters and I think our table was the most colorful there! (Defiantly the cutest.)

I made a large cardboard sign for my goods complete with bright yellow arrows with the prices on them. The mailing list and business cards did not get that much attention on the first day.

I put some of Whitney's paintings in my suitcase with my monsters. Without a clear line between our crafts, they appeared even more friendly and showed how well they went together.
