Found Favorites #10 - Geeky Modcloth Stuff

Found Favorites is back and this time with a theme! ModCloth just emailed me saying that they they have all this new home decor stuff. I checked it out and thare are some totally cute geeky decor that I totally want! Every thing I mention can be found here: ModCloth Retro & Cute Apartment Decor! What's great about ModCloth is though their clothing tends to be on the pricey side (but lovely), their home decor prices are pretty reasonable. Here's five geek worthy things I'd love to have at my place!

These TARDIS and Dalek salt and pepper shakers! I actually used to collect salt and pepper shakers when I was a kid. I don't have the collection anymore but man...this is making me want to start it again!

My friend has this game and we've played it once before. I actually thought I'd do better than I did! These geek questions are not all easy (I was a pro at the Lord of the Rings ones though.)

Oh my gosh. I can't decide if I'd take it out just for Halloween or keep this creepy through pillow out all year round.

I am SUCH a film and book geek, I love seeing them living together in harmony. (Doesn't always happen, heh.)

Any 'Twin Peeks' fans out there? It's a log pillow(!)

The Day the Earth Stood Still | Science Fiction Double Feature

Today I am premiering my new 12 part series on my YouTube channel, Science Fiction Double Feature. I am reviewing the 11 films mentioned in the song Science Fiction Double Feature from the 1975 musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Today's episode is the 1951 film, The Day the Earth Stood Still. It was made during the Cold War and captures perfectly the paranoia of the time. When Klaatu's craft lands in Wahington, D.C. the world does not know what to think. Klaatu spends his time 'hidden' in the city (for he appears human) and tries to organize a meeting of all the worlds leaders to warn them of the forseen cost of their quickly advancing weapon technology. It's not an easy task.

Photo an hour >> July 27th

July's Photo an Hour was done the weekend before VidCon. I had a lot of planning to do and a lot of unrelated things to do as well. Needless to say, I was quite busy.

10am >>  Woke up late but the first thing on my mind was planning my VidCon weekend. Time to get out the highlighters! 

11am >>  Picking out what to pack. I really do love planning...

12pm >> Lunch time!

1pm >>  I actually had a relaxing afternoon for once. I watched an interesting movie called Butter and had some delicious coffee.

 
2pm >> Cleaning, organizing, puttering around the apartment, unable to grasp that August is almost here.


 3pm >>  Jim had an afternoon concert in a local coffee shop so we piled the gear, merch, and us in the 'pope mobile' (what Jim calls his Crown Vic) and headed to the show.


 4pm >>  The place had an awesome Aquaman painting! Anyways, The Long Holidays' set was first. They were great as usual, despite the early show time. (They are used to night sets in bars as apposed to afternoon sets in coffee shops. Much different crowds.)





5pm >> Next up was Nicole from Hello the Future. The Long Holidays were the backing musicians for her most recent album, Giant Robot Album, so they played this gig with her. Till then I'd only heard the album so getting to see them perform together was really cool.

 6pm >> Beer and dinner at Wurstkuche. It's strange finishing a TLH show when the sun's still out.



7pm >> Still at Wurstkuche. (I admit, I tried a bite of a bratwurst but I really just had the fries. I'm still a bit of a picky eater.)

8pm >> Back home, attempting to organize my craft area. So many buttons! 

It was a pretty great day! Daytime concerts are not bad, I really like them I think.

Kaylee (Firefly) - Comic Con 2007

The fist time I went to Comic Con in 2006 I did not cosplay, so by 2007 I was ready to jump into it. I purchased a brown jumpsuit, found a floral blouse I had not worn for years, and knitted my very own Jayne Hat. Instant Kaylee! It was a very comfortable costume to wear all day at the con even though the jumpsuit I found was a tad too small to wear zipped up. (I'm thinking of selling it if there are any size small Firefly fans out there interested.)

My VidCon 2013 Haul

There was a lot of free swag at VidCon, but there was also lots of shopping opportunists. Here are some of the awesome things I picked up, and yes the are almost all exclusively geeky fashion. 

First is this Tetris Nerd t-shirt from DFTBA Records. It was designed by  Alan Lastufka & Vlogbrothers. As a geeky nerdy YouTuber, I'm happy it's finally a part of my wardrobe.

This beautiful 20d necklace is from the shop Midnight House Elves. I also purchased a DFTBA pin, all the proceeds from those go to the This Star Won't Go Out Foundation (TSWGO). Click here to learn more about TSWGO and its mission and/or to make a direct donation to this charity.

I finally got this adorable wood cut owl necklace from Lauren Fairweather and her Fairweather Friends shop. I absolutely adore her shop and own two plushies from her as well. She's also a YouTuber and a musician. She is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to crafting & doing YouTube. (She blogs too!)

I have been meaning to get a DFTBA necklace from Karen Kavett for quite a while. She is a graphic designer and YouTuber and she is really really amazing. Her designs can be purchased at DFTBA Records. (I also got a sticker with her logo!) 

Some other things I bought at VidCon that are not pictured are two card games: Evil Baby Orphanage & Story War. I recently played them both with Jim's siblings and we had a great time!

Consistent Branding & Facebook

One of the many things that kept being repeated at VidCon was the importance of consistent branding on social media. Daily Grace (a YouTuber) mentioned in a panel how her original Twitter handle was 'Ecarg' (Grace spelled backwards). It was bad idea because how were people going to find her? Up until now the only social media site with a different handle was my Facebook.
That is now changed! I have made a new Facebook page!

Now I am MagicCatJenny everywhere on the internet. Easy to find, easy to remember. My goal is to gain back the same number of 'fans' (291) and then I'll hold a contest. I can't hold it on Facebook due to their TOS but it will relate in a way to the site. I'm thinking of something like a social media scavengers hunt. So if you 'liked' my old Facebook page, feel free to 'unlike' it and go 'like' THIS ONE!
